Sexy Shagreen

I’ve always been a fan of the incredible art of shagreen, a shimmery, granular textile that’s made from shark or snakeskin, but can be faux as well. This backgammon table, spotted at Maison d’ Objet, employed it to perfection. The use of such a contemporary, trending soft gray color in an otherwise timeless material (and on an old-school game table to-boot!) made the entire effect of this piece unexpectedly stunning—what a show-stopper!

Shagreen is also a fairly new fashion and home trend that’s been popping up on runways and in boutiques for the past year. Here, in Riccardo Tisci’s Spring 2012 collection for Givenchy, it creates the perfect blend of tough masculinity and soft femininity—and that silvery-sage palette is electric and magnetizing…WOW!

And what’s not to love about this jewel of a clutch by Celestina…first of all it’s done in my favorite color: a bright aquamarine. Secondly, for something so delicate and lovely, it packs a punch that’s 100 percent fierce. Rrrow!
