Hollywood Chic Living Room

Even if you’re not gracing the cover of Us Weekly (yet!), you can still feel as if you’re one of the Hollywood elite…here’s how to make your living room star-worthy. To read the full article, click here, and be sure to check out my full Splurge and Steal series on eHow.com!

Creating a playful and colorful room that still has a sense of glamour and laid back luxury is one of my favorite challenges. You don’t always have to choose one theme over another to make a successfully unified design. This living room is a nice mix of modern and vintage with a bold navy, white and orange color palette.

Using a dark color settee against a lighter colored wall really makes the piece pop. The same is true for the bright orange accent table. Contrast is an important element in achieving the right look for a room. Mirrors help tie the room together by bringing in the navy color from the opposing side of the room.

The centerpiece of this room is a table the owner already had in her possession. Though the table was in poor condition, the shape made it a piece worth salvaging. With a little imagination and a coat of high gloss paint we created one gorgeous coffee table. Keep this in mind when evaluating the worth of items in your home or conducting some thrift store shopping.

A large piece of art can add to the overall feel of a room’s design, just make sure it’s something you love. The profile vases beneath the painting continue the blue theme and introduce some fun into the design. The bold yellow vase adds contrast to the softer colored items surrounding it.

These simple bottles painted gold were a local thrift shop find and add a touch of whimsy to the room. Quirky and offbeat accent pieces are a way to make your décor truly unique.

Hardcover books are an inexpensive styling accessory. They also make great tabletop displays. White covers are a good way to stay neutral, but if you’re looking for a pop of color, consider coffee table books with colored jackets.

Lovely room! Can you tell me where you found the white cut out vessel on the coffee table? I’ve been looking for something just like that!

Love the buff sofa, blue lounge and ceiling. Is the white cutout vase Morrocan style?

Also love the orange coffee table, I have seen it in other homes but stained. Great job as usual.
